As you may know, the TV series of "Fushigi no umi no Nadia" was shown on many countries outside Japan.
This site deals more specifically with the French version, which was broadcasted first in France in 1991 on a TV channel called "La Cinq" (now dead). For some reason, often nudity or blood, a lot of scenes has been edited or cut. "Nadia" was shown that way many times, in France and in Italy - "La Cinq" originally was an Italian channel.
On the year 2000, a sat & cable TV channel called Game One bought the series to show it during one year. The idea of putting the cut scenes came in mind of some of anime fans working there... Game One dealed with the company that owned the rights of French version (AB productions) and got the rights to modify or edit it once again. I worked at Game One, and I did the complete edit work, helped by many friends who did the needed translations.
That was quite a long work : putting the Japanese opening & ending sequences back, watching the entire series in Japanese and in French at the same time to find differences and cut scenes, bringing them from the Japanese LDs to insert them in the episodes... But it was eventually done. A lot of people enjoyed the series that way, even if the reinserted scenes were subtitled instead of dubbed (sounds stupid, but Game One didn't have the rights to make a complete subtitled version and it would have been a too long and hard work anyway). The series was shown many times, included in four complete nights with extra stories and clips from other foreign versions of Nadia.
Game One will lose all rights on Nadia on August, 2001. Then that version will diseappear. The legal rights stuff makes it impossible to release it on video nor to broadcast it again on Game One or any other channel. That was only a fan dream that we could do, watch and share during a limited time period.
All the other pages of the site are in French. The more interesting ones are the edits list, which enumerates all edited or cut scenese, including those that where modified by Gainax for the Japanese LD release (yes, there's differences between the LDs and the first TV version). You may want to have a look to that page where I posted some of the reports that were shown during the special "nights".
I hope you will find some interesting stuff !
